Rise Above

WTF Records presents Rise Above’s upcoming mini album, For Better For Worse, scheduled for 30 June digitally and on CD.

Rise Above has roots in the late-’80s and ’90s hardcore punk rock scene in the Netherlands, having members from bands like Disabuse and Cry of Terror. With their 2016’s DIY-released full-length, All That Is Solid…..Melts Into Air, the East Holland gang first demonstrated their in-your-face, metal-fused hardcore fury. Rise Above’s gritty and hard-hitting sound, upbeat and no-nonsense attitude, and heart in the right place put them on the radar of WTF Records, the label that would later release two of their EPs: Painkiller (2019) and Forever (2020).

Rise Above’s journey faced a major disruption when their friend and drummer Pierre passed away in October 2019. Rise Above, however, refused to quit and released the EP Forever in 2020. This release is a tribute to Pierre, his family, and friends, and serves as a celebration of life and the determination to persevere. With Jorrit on drums, the band created a rollercoaster of emotions through fast and furious riffs, basslines, drums, and melodies.

For Better For Worse, the band’s upcoming release, is centered around the theme of perseverance, urging listeners to have faith in their choices and rely on the support of loved ones even when faced with setbacks and mistakes. This mini album was a new experience for the band, featuring a different studio, engineer, and recording process. It was recorded, mixed, and mastered at 3181Studio by Sander Oldersma. Additionally, Sander, who is also the guitarist for the band LIES!, played a solo on the track “Recap,” while René, the vocalist of LIES!, contributed vocals to the song “Persevere.” Cover art for the release was done by Arch, the Rise Above guitarist.

In addition to performing at various hardcore and metal gigs and festivals, Rise Above also organizes their own Loud & Proud Fest at least once a year in their hometown, inviting bands from both the Netherlands and Germany. The band will also be hosting a release show for For Better For Worse in early July.
