Once I Cry

Once I Cry

ONCE I CRY is bringing an oldschool dose of Positive Melodic Hardcore to the table and will not stop until everybody is stagediving, high fiving, singing alonging, two stepping, change uppicking while making pile ons that are glorious!

The line up consists of experienced (old) musicians from the Dutch hardcore scene:
Vocals: Dennis Verhiest (Crivits)
Bass: Marc Hoogenboom (GuidingLine, X-Men, Crivits, Shelter, North)
Guitar: Jordy Middelbosch (Phlebotomized, Second Chance NL, Harbour 81)
Drums: Gerard Braaksma (Blood Sucker ,Coldblooded, Cornered, Dead Horse Running, DeathxChamps, Remain)
Guitar: Joost van Gisbergen (Striving Higher, Downslide, Operation Phoenix, MM).

Don’t you just hate it when a band quits, even plays a farewell show, and before you know it, it all of a sudden, um, unquits? Yeah well, shit happens.
So yes, Once I Cry is back! With a brand new CD! Full of old stuff! Twenty songs!
Here’s what’s the deal. A while ago, we got the news that our seven inch ‘Good Times Are Now’ was sold out. Great, but it did mean that our only release was no longer physically available. Sure, it was still on Spotify, but we’re old school, we like records and CDs.
So then we got the idea to compile a CD. We had the five songs from the EP, we had four songs on the shelf that had never been released, and we had some nice live recordings. Et voila: ‘Good Times & More’. First we considered just releasing a few dozen copies by ourselves to give or sell to friends and anyone else who might be interested. But then we decided to see if we could find a label to release it “for real”. You’ve already got a no, so all you can get is a yes, right?

The very first label we tried was WTF, because even before we had our EP out, Tim had been really interested in releasing us. Somehow it didn’t work out at the time (our fault, sorry!), but we were really flattered, also because as a positive, melodic hardcore band, we did’t really sound that much like the bands he usually released. When it turned out that Tim was still interested, we didn’t look any further and immediately decided that WTF was the right label for ‘Good Times & More’.

Jordy, who had recorded and mixed our seven inch, then asked if it was OK if he remixed all the songs from scratch. His skills had improved quite a bit since recording the EP and he had better equipment now, so he thought he could do a better job. We were blown away by the results. They almost sounded like re-recordings.

We’re not really sure yet what’s up next for Once I Cry, time will tell. But a few weeks ago, we had our first rehearsal in over two years and we really had a blast. And we’re VERY excited about this new release. I know that the words ‘Good Times Are Now’ might not ring true for everyone yet, but we’ll get there.

Thanks for reading.
